The foundation of the People's Republic of China in 1949 marked a return of Badaling Great Wall. With the intention to show the construction to visitors of mainland China and from abroad, Chinese government started to repair the areas left abandoned for years: city towers, city walls and buttress had been destroyed due to man's disdain. Since 1957, the Badaling Great Wall is opened to the public.

Features of Badaling Great Wall
Badaling Great Wall7.6 kilometers long, about 6 meters (20 ft) wide, Badaling Great Wall stands at more than 1,000 meters (3281 ft) above the sea level. It is said that back in ancient times about five horses could gallop on the Great Wall. Badaling is mainly made of tall granite slabs which made the Great Wall very solid and indestructible. Consists of a series of structures like city platforms, watchtowers, beacon towers and parapets, with the steep and tortuous mountain slopes around, the panorama of Badaling Great Wall is breathtaking.
